CYP relies on the commitment and skills of over 500 volunteers each year to keep our programs going. Volunteers are the backbone of our tutoring and mentoring programs, the chaperones on weekend excursions, medical personnel in our clinics, our extra help at events, and professions behind our job shadowing days.
We realize that each volunteer has a unique skills set and aptitudes, and as an organization, we try to match volunteers with opportunities that match these skills so they get as much out as they are putting in. Volunteer opportunities are many and, depending on your availability, also require different levels of time commitment.
A majority of our volunteers choose to help with one of our programs, which range from literacy training to career and higher education tutoring/mentoring. Programs run in three different communities: Washington Park, Near North/Cabrini Green, and Uptown - take a look at the programs section of our website to find out which program might be a good fit for you.
**It's important to note that, for our tutoring programs, we require a one year commitment from our volunteers. We do this because our youth perform better in the programs and stay with programming longer if they have a consistent tutor.
If you're interested in a smaller commitment, there are projects throughout the year that volunteers also help with. Examples include: Gardening, helping keep our playground clean, painting, set up/serving at our events, hosting a job shadowing day.
