LITERACY: Read to Me (3-6 year olds) – Read to Me fosters the child’s interest in written language while teaching age-appropriate literacy concepts. The program pairs children with an adult volunteer.
PREP (3-6 year olds) – This program stresses the importance of parental involvement in their child’s education. Trained by volunteer pediatricians, parenting and literacy experts, parents conduct small group phonics activities and prepare/serve a healthy meal.
TUTORING: SCORE Tutoring I, II, and III (1st-6th grade) & Teen Tutoring (7th – 9th grade) – SCORE Tutoring provides one-on-one assistance to youth, focusing on establishing healthy, trustworthy relationships between tutors and tutees and empowering tutors to identify and teach concepts critical to their student’s long-term outcome not fully mastered in the classroom, through CYP-developed Concept Packages.
Burling On-Site Tutoring (1st-6th grade) – Provides one-on-one academic assistance for children living in the 1230 N. Burling building in Cabrini Green. Children work on homework and supplemental concept packets with a volunteer.
MENTORING: Saturday Dreams (PreK - 9th Grade) – The oldest of all CYP programs, Saturday Dreams provides a “window to the world” for children aged three through 15. While primarily a recreational activity, Saturday Dreams also provides the opportunity for volunteers to develop positive, supportive mentoring relationships with youth.
Teen Exodus (7th-12th grade) –Teen Exodus is a one-on-one mentoring program for teen girls ages 12-17. Girls meet with their mentors once each week to discuss topics of concern and develop a positive role model relationship with a pre-professional or professional adult woman.
Diverse Young Men (7th-9th grade) – Teens meet with their mentors once each week to discuss topics of concern and develop a positive role model relationship with a pre-professional or professional adult male.
PRIMARY & PREVENTIVE HEALTH PROGRAMS: Comprehensive Volunteer Health Clinic – Located in donated space within Children’s Memorial Hospital, this award-winning free clinic is run by volunteer physicians providing physicals, sick care, immunizations, well care, gynecological exams, eye and ear testing, social work and 24-hour emergency care to our youth.
RECREATION: CGYP youth, who regularly attend our educational programs, enjoy a wide array of positive recreational activities. Programs include soccer, golf, book clubs, arts/crafts, camps, skating, bowling, movies, museums and variety of other outings and experiences.
